Rural Microenterprise Transformation Project (RMTP)

Project Summary

The Rural Microenterprise Transformation Project (RMTP) was implemented by Shishu Niloy Foundation (SNF) from January 2022 to December 2025 with financial and technical support from Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The project worked with 6,000 small entrepreneurs and marginal farmers across two upazilas in Jashore and Jhenaidah districts. RMTP aimed to strengthen rural livelihoods by improving agricultural productivity, developing entrepreneurial skills, expanding market opportunities, and promoting sustainable farming and business practices. Through capacity building, technology adoption, and market linkage initiatives, the project contributed to creating more resilient and profitable rural enterprises.

Challenges

  • Limited digital literacy among rural entrepreneurs during the early stages of implementation.
  • Climate-related risks, including irregular rainfall and extreme weather, affecting agricultural production.
  • Fluctuating market prices for agricultural commodities and rural products.
  • Limited access to quality inputs and modern technologies in remote areas.
  • High transportation and logistics costs for reaching larger markets.

Learning

The RMTP experience demonstrated that combining entrepreneurship development with agricultural innovation creates stronger and more sustainable rural livelihoods. Continuous technical support, practical training, and market linkage are essential for long-term success. Integrating digital business skills with traditional farming practices enables rural entrepreneurs to access new markets and increase competitiveness. Collaboration among communities, local institutions, and development partners remains critical for sustaining project outcomes beyond the project period.
